Recently SaskTel was named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for the second consecutive year by Mediacorp Canada Inc.
Mediacop releases a yearly report on Canada’s Greenest Employers competition recognizing 50 Canadian employers who make efforts to create a culture of environmental awareness and make efforts to attract employees based on such.
SaskTel’s environmental
strategy involves a number of key elements, including waste reduction, recycling, increased fuel efficiency and an environmental management system that aligns with ISO 14001 standards.
SaskTel’s president and CEO, Robert Watson, said the “recognition from Mediacorp Canada acknowledges our efforts to include environmental awareness in everything we do.” SaskTel is the only Saskatchewan-based company on this year’s list.
Not only is SasTel one of Canada’s strongest crown corps, in terms of revenue, it is one of the few Canadian
technology companies focused on improving its services for the betterment of its Saskatchewan customers… and perhaps the only Canadian
technology company who’s primary focus is extending its services regardless of profitability. SaskTel is also one of the only Television Service who leverage their IP Infrastructure to deliver television content.
Saskatchewan, be proud of one of your greatest assets as it successfully makes headway in providing some of the most advanced technical communication services to its customers. As one who appreciates new technologies and where they are headed, I know I am

Mediacorp outlined a number of reasons for SaskTel’s selection as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers, including:
- operating a long-standing environmental management program in the communities where it operates, sponsoring local recycling projects that divert thousands of gallons of paint, tonnes of waste batteries and old telephone directories from landfills every year;
- encouraging employees to use their expertise to repair and donate surplus computers to local schools and organizations. SaskTel has donated more than 30,000 refurbished computers since 1993;
- revising the corporation’s ‘Eco-
Strategy,’ first developed in 2006, that commits the company to consider environmental impacts as part of its decision-making processes. As a result of this initiative, the company has implemented a range of environmentally friendly projects, from office waste recycling programs to educational campaigns for employees and suppliers;
- operating extensive in-house recycling programs in place for batteries, printer cartridges, office paper, light bulbs, phone books, furniture, office equipment, wire and cabling and computer equipment. More than 770 tonnes or 64 per cent of the company’s total waste was diverted from landfills last year;
